Albums

The story of BLACK LUNG is hard to tell without mentioning that of another band: THE FLYING EYES.  A band that was carried by their fans and celebrated live. After hundreds of shows and a handful of albums, THE FLYING EYES had to take a break in 2014 to avoid imploding.

2014, a record-breaking winter in Baltimore with freezing temperatures and meter-high snowdrifts, quickly brought Elias Schutzmann (dr) and Adam Bufano (git) back into the rehearsal room. They had an unusual amount of time and were full of ideas and musical energy. With Dave Cavalier (voc/git) they found the missing link to create something new – something that quickly felt special and different: BLACK LUNG!

Two guitars, tuned down and heavy. A bass is unnecessary here. It grooves, rolls and songs are created that oscillate between the raw blues rock of the BLACK KEYS and the venerable riffs of SLEEP. Despite all the heaviness, the production remains transparent. Psychedelic guitar walls, noisy shimmering guitar sounds, heavy riffs and at the same time a lightness and floating melodies and the desperately pleading vocals of Dave Cavalier.

Black, melancholic soul

VISIONS magazine attests that the BLACK LUNG sound has a “NICK CAVE atmosphere and black, melancholic soul in the style of THE AFGHAN WHIGS.” Dark and yet with a certain touch of pop. Majestically sublime. A song like “Black Rainbow” by ST. VINCENT, seems to have begged for these walls of guitars and becomes something of its own in this sound, a BLACK LUNG song.

“BLACK LUNG create an evocative soundscape virtually out of nothing, in which all the ingredients work together in a wondrous way and create a maelstrom that unites stoner rock, grunge and doom, but doesn’t let any of the three take precedence!” (Classic Rock)
