Anyone who holds the album in their hand will know. The impression is clear. It is no coincidence that the artwork is reminiscent of the blissful SubPop days and the classics and their releases. The roots are to be found here, even if you won’t find much grunge and this is only a small part. But the attitude, the raw way of presenting rock music, the impetuousness, the madness “on stage” that characterized many Seattle bands, all this can be found in “Brainwash”.
Here the stones are grunge, punk, hardcore, alternative rock… a hard-hitting and uncompromising album from the trio from Winterthur. Thirteen songs that leave little room for maneuver and never make it easy, even in the few moments when the handbrake is on. “Brainwash” is an album album. One that is compact and cohesive. The recommended tracks change accordingly and are rather random. Here is a quick attempt:
“Angry Vampire” – sets the tone as the opener and the title doesn’t promise too much. HATHORS pack their rage into the chords, which seem to be the gasoline in the band’s tank.
“Hit Me” – rolls and grooves and is perhaps already reaching for the pop stars in the band cosmos, without any prospect of daily plays on the radio. Which is rather a shame for the radios… A great, almost majestic song.
“New York” – a dark, unusually floating piece with lots of atmosphere and sound.
“Venus In Trouble” – certainly one of the most striking tracks on the album. Representative of the band, who shout their catchy melodies and catchy tunes in your face.
