Flow
Flow
The master suddenly returned in 2001. J.G. Thirlwell, alias Foetus, had not been heard from for a long time. And then: “Flow”.
His last work was released in the mid-nineties on the English label Big Cat. Back then, J.G. Thirlwell appeared under various names, whether as Foetus Interruptus or Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel, as Foetus Inc. or under his third name as Clint Ruin. As Clint Ruin, Foetus was also responsible for the ingenious Wiseblood project together with Roli Mosimann (Swans).
A pioneer and innovator, a legend, one who seems to have been denied commercial success to this day, but one who is respected and honored. Whether Mike Patton praises him, the Melvins invite him as a guest on their albums or his remixes are requested (in recent years, Thirlwell has repeatedly appeared as a remixer. The list of acts that have made use of his mixing skills is seemingly endless: Front 242, Nine Inch Nails, Marylin Manson, Jon Spencer, Boss Hog, Danzig, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc.).
FOETUS stands for underground and alternative in the best sense of the word. Between noise, industrial and punk, post-gothic, EBM and alternative rock, he doesn’t shy away from any stylistic element and so surprises tend to be the norm.
